Isover Protect BSF is the specified water-based intumescent coating used to complete penetration seals in the Isover U Protect passive-fire-protection system. Supplied as a box of 12 × 310ml cartridges.
When and how it is used
- For the rectangular slab penetration detail reviewed, BSF is required for the EI120 construction.
- Apply around the penetration on both sides of the wall or floor to approximately 2mm dry-film thickness.
- Do not assume it is required for every fire rating or construction: follow the applicable tested detail.
Approximate consumption per metre of joint
- 20mm opening: 0.05kg/m
- 30mm opening: 0.08kg/m
- 40mm opening: 0.10kg/m
- 50mm opening: 0.13kg/m
For a penetration treated on both faces, calculate the total joint length as twice the perimeter around the duct and opening, then multiply by the applicable kg-per-metre rate. Allow for waste and site conditions.
Store frost-free and use within the temperature limits stated in the current Isover data. Installation must follow the current U Protect manual, ETA and project fire specification.
