Isover U Protect Slab 4.0 Alu1 is a lightweight, aluminium-faced stone-wool slab for passive fire protection of rectangular steel ventilation and smoke-extract ductwork. The complete system is tested to EN 1366-1 and EN 1366-8 and can provide up to 120 minutes of fire resistance, subject to the duct application, insulation thickness and approved installation method.

Thickness selection must follow the tested application
The current UK guide uses different thicknesses depending on duct type, orientation and whether fire exposure is from outside or inside the duct. Common tested slab thicknesses include 30, 40, 50, 70, 80 and 90mm; smoke-extract applications use 50, 80 or 90mm according to rating. Do not select thickness from fire rating alone.
Ancillaries
- Steel welding pins and washers: minimum 2.7mm pin and 30mm washer; maximum 260mm centres and within 80mm of edges/joints.
- FireProtect corner screws: approximately twice the slab thickness, at maximum 260mm centres.
- Protect Black Tape: finish exposed Alu1 edges and slab joints.
- BSK adhesive: bond the first slab to the wall or floor at penetration details.
- BSF intumescent paint: required where identified by the applicable tested penetration detail, including the reviewed EI120 slab construction.
Important: Fire performance depends on using the complete specified system and following the current Isover manual, ETA and project fire specification. The present draft variation list does not yet include every certified thickness; confirm the required construction before ordering.
