How circular ductwork connects

Most circular fittings have male ends that slide directly inside spiral duct. A male joining collar connects two lengths of spiral, while a female collar connects two male fittings, such as elbow to elbow.

Elbows and bends

Elbows change the direction of a circular duct run. Their male ends normally fit directly into spiral duct, so no joining collar is needed unless two male fittings are being connected together.

Male and female joining collars

Use a male joining collar to connect spiral duct to spiral duct. Use a female joining collar when both components already have male ends.

Cap ends and mesh ends

A cap end closes a circular duct run. A mesh end allows airflow while helping to keep out debris, birds and pests. Check the required airflow and weather exposure before selecting a terminal.

Saddles and flanged spigots

A saddle forms a circular branch from circular duct. A flanged IL spigot creates a circular connection on a flat or rectangular duct surface and is normally fixed through its flange.

Flat and curved shoes

Shoes form branch take-offs with a gradual inlet that can improve airflow compared with an abrupt opening. Flat shoes suit flat or rectangular surfaces; curved shoes suit circular duct.

Tee pieces and twin bends

Both create a three-way circular connection. Standard tees provide a compact branch, while twin bends use curved paths where smoother directional airflow is preferred.

Cowls and external terminals

Cowls terminate a duct run outdoors. Choose the style to suit the discharge direction, airflow, rain protection and project specification.

Duct supports

Suspension rings and associated supports hold circular duct securely and help maintain alignment. Select the support size and fixing method for the duct diameter, load and building structure.
